King’s Lynn Festival Chorus, fresh from their recent success in Classic FM’s Carol Competition 2018 present a concert of music from the Romantic era. Only five years separate the works performed in this concert, both using the piano as the main accompanying instrument.
Enjoy the sight and majestic sounds of not one but 2 gleaming, pristine and matching Steinway 9 foot concert grand pianos, put through their paces by Ben Horden (Assistant MD of KLFC) and Nick Tudor.
Brahms’ Liebesliederwaltzer Op. 52 composed in 1868 for 4 soloists and piano duet are based on the simple Austrian folk dance (Ländler). Simple they may be, but they are nevertheless beautifully crafted with typical Brahms-ian cross rhythms and harmonic tensions.
Rossini composed Petite Messe Solennelle in 1863 in the autumn of his life – referring to it as his ‘last great sin!’. It is a work that sits alone amongst its contemporaries, drawing on Rossini’s extensive opera career by bringing both drama and lightness to the traditional Mass text.
The Festival Chorus will be joined by piano duet, Matthew Searles on Harmonium and four of the UK’s top soloists Angela Brun (Sydney Opera House), Freya Jacklin (BBC Singers), Ben Thapa (Welsh National Opera) and Jolyon Loy (Britten Pears Young Artist)
