SUCH SWEET THUNDER - Shakespeare in jazz
On St George’s Day 2020, jazz orchestra ‘Harmony in Harlem’ and special guest artists will treat the audience to an evening of authentic Ellingtonia as the Duke meets the Bard. Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn composed Such Sweet Thunder in 1957 after an invitation from the Stratford Shakespearean Festival, Ontario. The result, a dozen masterful vignettes of Shakespearean characters, became one of the most acclaimed albums in jazz. What better way to celebrate St George’s Day than by listening to the Shakespearean jazz suite on the Bard’s birthday, in his theatre at St George’s Guildhall.
