Beethoven’s Opus 69 is undoubtedly the most popular of his five cello sonatas. But in this work it is not the cello that only has the spotlight, but it is the first instance that Beethoven arguably achieves true equality between the cello and piano. In this concert two young but consummate performers also play Brahms’ passionate and fiery second cello sonata and a lyrical and evocative work by Dvorak.
