Set in 17th century Germany, the brilliant Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall) plays a woman who assumes a male identity as a soldier. Returning from war to an isolated village, she claims rights over an abandoned farmstead, sparking suspicion among the villagers. This stunningly beautiful black and white film has drawn high acclaim and been described as a ‘searing folk tragedy’. This will be the Austrian entry for next year’s Academy Awards, and is being shown as a special festival preview ahead of its release in 2027.
